Biography
Tammy has spent most of her life painting murals and volunteering for city commissions and societies. She is now focusing on personal work brining attention to things that matter most to her...the future of our planet.
Her inspiration comes from the environment and by using current events to spark creativity without using traditional landscape references. The fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline in 2017 motivated her to research oil spills in addition to abstract works. Large oil spills that have occurred are very striking and contain reflective qualities that are beautiful despite their deadly effects on the environment.
Her "Beautiful Disaster" was based on aerial and ground views of oil spills on large bodies of water. The focus was on the balance of complementing analogous colors while creating a disturbed and fragmented texture. This series is reminiscent of oil slicks, pools of pollution and dead aquatic vegetation. Each piece mimics the translucent qualities left in the water visible through the pollution and are representative of small sections of a grand scale of destruction. Tammy has always had an interest in caring for the environment and using art helps portray the beauty of the earth. It also allows her to show the underlying destruction by humans.
Tammy has moved towards the shores and is focusing on the amount of pollution that is collecting for miles within the sea and ending up along shorelines around the world. She is using the same concept of zooming in on large areas to create small images for her "Polluted Shores" series. Where many people see nothing but trash and pollution, Tammy finds herself interested in the wonderful colors and collections that end up together.
" It's amazing how people are drawn to the colors and images that I produce and yet they are taken aback when confronted with the responsibility of taking care of their environment." ~ Tammy
